Overview
There is no prompt to encrypt an external hard disk when connected to a USB2.0 or USB3.0 port.
Environment
GFI EndPointSecurity 2013 Build: 20130719
Root Cause
The system does not recognize the External Hard Disk Drive as a storage device.
Resolution
To resolve this issue, create a new protection policy with the categories to enable GFI EndPointSecurity to recognize the HDD as Storage Device.
To create a new policy, follow the below steps:
-
Open the GFI EndPoinSecurity console.
-
Navigate to Configuration > Protection Policies.
-
Click Create new protection policy and enter a policy name.
-
Under Controlled device categories, select CD/DVD, Storage Devices and Other Devices and press OK.
-
Under Controlled connectivity ports, select USB, Secure Digital (SD) and Internal then press OK.
-
Check Block any access to the controlled devices, for the defined devices categories and ports and click Next.
-
Under Encryption, tab click Enable detection of encrypted devices and click Configure.
-
Click Add.
-
Grant access to a specific User or Group for accessing the encrypted devices and enter the user or group (e.g., DOMAIN\User) and click OK.
-
Check Enable volume encryption and click Configure.
-
Set a Recovery Password. That password is used to reset the device password if the user loses it.
-
Click the Users.
-
Select Enforce all users except those in the following list and click OK.
-
Click Finish.
-
Deploy the new policy on the client computers.
