Windows 10 OS Crashing with BSOD

Overview

You may face the issue where your computer that has the GFI EndpointSecurity Agent installed, and operating on a Windows 10 version newer than 1709, is restarting with a blue screen which is also called BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death).

Solution

Windows 10 version 1809 and later are not supported operating versions for the GFI EndpointSecurity agent. You can find the system requirements on the System requirements - GFI EndPointSecurity page.

The problem is caused by an exception that is due to the esecdrv60.sys file and this file is part of  EndPointSecurity. It can be found in the minidump files created when the Windows OS crashes, located at %SystemRoot%Minidump.dmp (C:\Window\Minidump.dump if C: is the system drive).

This is a common issue but due to the End of Engineering status of the product, it won't be fixed. However, the following workarounds exist:

  • Install Windows 10 (1709 or older) on the machine with GFI-EndPointSecurity.
  • If you need to use one of the latest versions of Windows 10, uninstall the Agent Manually.
